West Indies defeated hosts Bangladesh by three wickets in the second semi-final of the ICC U-19 World Cup played at Bangla National Stadium on Thursday February 11,2016
Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first, a
decision which didn't work in their favour as they lost a wicket in the
2nd over of the innings.
Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals
and despite a handy knock by skipper Mehedi Hasan Miraz (60), Bangladesh
couldn't put a formidable total on board.
Miraz, along with Mohammad Saifuddin, resurrected the innings to an extent when the duo added 85 runs for the sixth wicket.
Keemo Paul was the most successful bowlers in the first innings with a three-wicket haul while Chemar Holder and Shamar Springer shared two wickets apiece.
In reply, Windies openers Gidron Pope (38) and Tevin Imlach (14) got their side to a decent start by providing a 44-run stand for the opening wicket in just five overs.
Windies skipper Shimron Hetmyer (60) and Shamar Springer (62) made sure the team didn't lose too many wickets as they chased down the total with eight balls remaining.
Saleh Ahmed Shawon scalped three wickets for the hosts while Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Mohammad Saifuddin picked two wickets each.
West Indies will now lock horns with Ishan Kishan-led Indian team that defeated Sri Lanka to advance into their fifth U-19 final.
