Bihar
Nearly three months after its stupendous victory, the Nitish Kumar-led Grand Alliance in Bihar today suffered a setback losing Harlakhi Assembly bypoll to BJP ally Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) candidate by 18,650 votes.
Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha led RLSP candidate Sudhanshu Shekhar, riding on a sympathy wave, defeated his Congress rival Mohammad Shabir by a margin of 18,650 votes.
Sudhanshu Shekhar's father Basant Kushwaha had died a day before oath taking in November last year.
Returning Officer Bishnudeo Mandal said while RLSP nominee polled 62,434 votes, the Congress candidate bagged 43,784 votes and CPI Ram Naresh Pandey 19,835.

With today's victory, the tally of RLSP goes up to two in the 16th Bihar Assembly while that of NDA to 58 in the 243-member House. BJP has 53 legislators, LJP 2, RLSP 2 and HAM 1

Karnataka
In Congress-ruled Karnataka, the ruling party won Bidar seat and the main opposition BJP won Hebbala and Devadurga seats. The defeat of the Congress in Hebbala in Bengaluru city has come as a shock to the party.
Former Union minister CK Jaffer Sharief’s grandson CK Rehman Sharief lost the prestigious seat by a big margin. The local BJP MP and Union Law minister DV Sadananda Gowda emerged victorious by ensuring the win of his candidate Narayanaswamy, who is an outsider to Bengaluru.
In Devadurga, former BJP minister Shivanagouda Naik won and the Congress’ Raheem Khan won from Bidar. Before the by-polls the Congress held one seat and the BJP held two seats. Since Hebbala candidate was not from Siddaramaiah camp, the chief minister can now blame Jaffer Sharief for the loss.

Uttar Pradesh
The ruling Samajwadi Party today lost to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in riot-hit Muzaffarnagar, in by-polls that were held on Saturday February 13,2016
Samajwadi Party has also lost the Deoband seat to the Congress but has retained a third seat.

Tripura
Tripura's ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Tuesday retained the Amarpur assembly seat by a huge margin. The BJP edged out the main opposition Congress to take the second spot.
The CPI-M won from Amarpur for the fourth consecutive time.
"CPI-M candidate Parimal Debnath defeated his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rival Ranjit Das by 10,597 votes. The CPI-M secured 20,355 votes, the BJP got 9,758 votes while Congress' Chanchal Dey bagged only 1,231 votes, securing fourth position," additional hief electoral officer Debashish Modak told

Telangana
Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) won the Narayankhed Assembly seat in Medak district.

Punjab
The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today won the bypoll to Khadoor Sahib Assembly seat, with party candidate Ravinder Singh Brahmpura defeating his nearest Independent rival Bhupinder Singh by a margin of 65,664 votes.
Main opposition parties Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had stayed out of the contest.
The bypoll was held as the seat fell vacant after Congress legislator Ramanjit Singh Sikki resigned in protest against sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib last year.
Congress had "boycotted" the polls, saying the issue on which Mr Sikki had resigned was still unresolved.
The CPI-M retained the Amarpur assembly seat in Tripura whereas Rashtriya Lok Samta Party won Bihar's Harlakhi assembly seat.

 Maharashtra
Ruling alliance partner Shiv Sena today retained the Palghar Assembly seat as its candidate Amit Ghoda defeated his nearest Congress rival Rajendra Gavit by a margin of 18,948 votes in the keenly fought by-election.
The BJP did not contest the by-poll. Mr Ghoda secured 67,129 votes, while Mr Gavit got 48,181 votes in by-election, necessitated due to the demise of Amit Ghoda's father and sitting Shiv Sena MLA Krishna A Ghoda on May 24 last year, following a heart attack.
The other candidates in the fray were former Sena leader Manisha Nimkar, who contested on the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) ticket this time and secured 36,781 votes, Chandrakant Vartha of (CPI-M) who bagged 4,865 votes and Bahujan Mukti Party's Dileep A Dumada got 1,417 votes.
