Facebook announces sixth data center in Ireland Monday January 25,2016

Facebook officially announced on Monday January 25,2016 the opening of its next data center in Clonee, Ireland. EU2, as it will be called, will be the social media giant's sixth data center and second European data center, the first one being in Luela, Sweden.

The construction for EU2 shall go on floors soon and the new facility will go online sometime in late 2017 or early 2018 and will also run on renewable energy.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself announced the new development on the social media platform.

These data centers are set up to ensure that users receive the best services and facilities on social media and according to Zuckerberg, “They’re some of the most complex machines ever created.”

Apart from Facebook, other organizations which operate their data centers in Ireland include, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and (soon) Apple. Facebook has also used Ireland as its own international headquarters since 2009
