Google files patent for needle-free blood test system that could be used as a smartwatch

 

Google has filed a patent for a 'needle-free blood draw' system that could be used either as a wearable, like a smartwatch, or as a hand-held device that draws blood from a fingertip or other parts of the body.

The purported system works by sending a surge of gas into a barrel containing a micro-particle that pierces the skin.

 

Once blood is released from the skin, it's sucked up into the negative pressure barrel.

Google further explains that such a system might be used to draw a small amount of blood, for example, for a glucose test, which means potential use for the patients diagnosed with diabetes.

Under its Life Sciences' projects, the company is already working on two devices for the diabetics: smart contact lenses and a cloud-connected sensor for monitoring glucose levels.

Similar to other patents (pending or approved), this one too doesn't necessary ensure its conversion into a final product
