M S Dhoni to remain captain till 2016 World T20 in India
BCCI on Saturday Dec 19,2015, decided that M.S. Dhoni will remain captain of the limited-overs sides till the World T20 championship in India scheduled to be held during March 08 to April 03,2016
Before
announcing the teams for India’s upcoming tour of Australia next month,
BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur announced the decision regarding Dhoni.
“Dhoni
will be the captain till the World T20 championship,” said Thakur,
triggering speculation as to whether Dhoni would cease to be the captain
after the mega event.
However, chairman of selectors
Sandeep Patil explained that the decision related to Dhoni’s captaincy
was taken due to rumours related his tenure as captain in the shorter
formats.
“There was a lot of speculation.
“There
were a lot of stories. So the selectors wanted to give out a clear-cut
message to all that Dhoni should be captain till the World T20.
Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra Recalled in T20 Squad
Yuvraj will be part of India's T20I squad for the first time since the forgettable ICC World Twenty20 final in Sri Lanka on April 6, 2014, where his failure raised a lot of eyebrows.
But more than his 398 runs in 7 Ranji Trophy matches this season, Yuvraj’s willow-work in the Vijay Hazare Trophy did the magic for him.
In the premier domestic 50-over tournament this season, the left-hander has an average of close to 70 with 341 runs in 5 matches, which includes two knocks of 90-plus.
With India to play only limited-overs cricket over the next 7-8 months, an in-form Yuvraj can take care of India’s finishing woes since Dhoni hasn’t been the same game-changing batsman of late.
Ironically, a good show in Australia could earn the batting allrounder a place in another World T20 set to begin in India on March 8, 2016.
Ashish Nehra last played a T20I against South Africa in Durban in January 2011 and his last appearance in an ODI match came in March 2011 against Pakistan in the World Cup semi-final.
