Lynne Owens is to become the top woman in UK law enforcement after being appointed the £214,000-a-year director-general of the National Crime Agency, or ‘Britain’s FBI’.

After three years as Chief Constable of Surrey Police, she will lead the fight against organised crime, including drugs gangs, human traffickers, money launderers and firearms.

Lynne Owens will be directly answerable to Home Secretary Theresa May and has the power to direct chief constables and the Met Police commissioner.
