Stockholm, Sweden opens world's first male rape victim centre

 

The world’s first hospital department specifically for male rape victims has opened in Sweden.

The clinic opened on Thursday Oct 15,2015 at Södersjukhuset, Stockholm, in a bid for gender equality.

Walk-in centres for female victims of sexual abuse already run in the city – and see around 700 patients every year.

Around 370 cases of sexual assault on males were reported in Sweden in 2014.

Liberal Party spokesman Rasmus Jonlund told The Local: ‘We are happy that we now can finally open the first rape clinic for men following the rape clinic for women..
‘It is the first in Sweden – we think it is the first in the world. We haven’t found another from our research on the world wide web.’
