Taking a firm step to reduce road accident causalities, the Rajasthan State Government today made helmet mandatory for two-wheeler riders across the state with immediate effect.

In compliance to the High Court orders to make helmet compulsory for rider and pillion rider by October 31, 2015, the state government issued the notification to this effect last night.

Transport Commissioner and Secretary (IAS) Gayatri Rathor said the relaxation given to riders and pillion riders under Central Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and Rajasthan Motor Vehicle Act 1990 have been ended and new notification has been issued in compliance to the High Court.

The helmet to be used should be of ISI grade and Sikhs who wear "Pagri" (turban) would be exempted from the mandatory rule, she said.
