A R Rahman Honoured with the Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award

Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman was honoured with the Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award here on Monday October 26,2015


In 2009, A R Rahman won the Oscar for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, sharing it with lyricist Gulzar, for Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire.

A R Rahman has also won four National Awards(Best Music Direction) in a career spanning over two decades

  • In 1992 for '' Roja '' Tamil Film
  • In 1996  for '' Minsara Kanavu '' Tamil Film
  • In 2001 for '' Lagaan '' Hindi Film
  • In 2002 for '' Kannathil Muthamittal '' Tamil Film

Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai presented the fifth Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award to Rahman on the 78th birthday of Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, renowned composer and younger brother of legendary playback singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle

The first Hridaynath Award was presented to Lataji. Ashaji, Amitabh Bachchan and veteran actress Sulochana have also received this award in the past.
