Mutiple Birth

A multiple birth occurs when more than one fetus result from a single pregnancy

Multiple birth siblings are either monozygotic or polyzygotic

The former result from a single fertilized Egg or Zygote splitting into two or more embryos (identical), each carrying the same genetic material (genes)

Siblings created from one egg are commonly called identical. Since identical multiples share the same genetic material, they are always of the same sex

Polyzygotic (or fraternal) multiples instead result from multiple ova being ripened and released in the same menstrual cycle by a woman's ovaries, which are then fertilized to grow into multiples no more genetically alike than ordinary full siblings, sharing 50% of their genetic material. Multiples called "dizygotic" represent multiples from two eggs specifically

Identical Triplets are very rare occurring approximately once in every millionbirths, when a single egg splits into three embryos

Kelli and Jason Fenley, introduced their sons Owen, Noah and Miles, at a press conference on Sept 17,2015 at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y.
Kelli gave birth on July 1,2015 at just 29 weeks. On average, triplets typically deliver around 33 weeks, according to Martin Chavez, chief of maternal fetal medicine and the Fetal Surgery Program at Winthrop.
The babies weighed just over 2 pounds when they were born and spent 51 days in the NICU following the delivery.

Quadruplets are much rarer than twins or triplets
