Labour's new leader Jeremy Corbyn has pledged to renationalise the entire rail network 'line by line'.
In
his first pledge since storming to victory in last week's leadership
election, Jeremy Corbyn vowed to create a 'people's railway' under
government control.
Jeremy Corbyn's pledge was attacked by rail chiefs and government ministers Sunday Sep 20,2015, amid warnings it will cost 'billions of pounds'.
However, Jeremy Corbyn said the proposal had 'overwhelming support' among the public
and announced he was setting up a task force to look at how to
implement the plan.
Under the
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's proposals, the rail network will be brought back under
public control as each franchise comes up for renewal.
It
would lead to a third of franchises being brought under public
ownership by 2025 if he became prime minister at the next election.
Five out of 16 franchises are due to expire between 2020 and 2025, including East Coast, Southern and TransPennine Express.
