World Population Prospects:The 2015 Revision

 
The 2015 Revision of World Population Prospects is the 24th round of official United Nations population estimates and projections that have been prepared by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat

On July 29, 2015, the United Nations Population Division released its World Population Prospects: 2015 Revision.

According to these latest projections, which are released every two years, the world population will reach 8.5 billion people in 2030 (the previous estimate was 8.4 billion), 9.7 billion people in 2050 (up from the previously estimated 9.55 billion), and 11.2 billion people in 2100 (up from the previously estimated 10.8 billion)

After the 7 billion mark reached in 2011, the next milestone of 8 billion is now projected to be passed in the year 2024 (unchanged from the previous estimate), 9 billion in 2038 (two years earlier than previously estimated), and 10 billion people is now the estimated world population of 2056 (the previously estimated year for the 10 billion milestone was 2062)

In the year 2015,the current world population is estimated at 7.3 billion.The World has added 1 Billion people since 2003 and two Billion people since 1990

Int the year 2015,50.4 of the Population is Male and 49.6% was Female

60% of the Population lives in Asia - 4.4 Billion
16% of the Population lives in Africa - 1.2 Billion
10% of the Population lives in Europe - 738 Million
9% of the Population lives in Latin America and Caribbean - 634 Million
5% of the Population lives in North America - 358 Million

China(1.4 Billion)and India(1.3 Billion)remain the two largest countries of the World,both with people representing 19% and 18% of the World's Population respectively



Currently,the World's Population has been growing at a slower rate of 1.18% as compared to 1.24% per year 10 years ago

Among the 10 largest countries in the World at present -
One Country is in Africa - Nigeria
Five Countries in Asia - Bangladesh,China,India,Indonesia and Pakistan
Two Countries are in Latin America - Mexico and Brazil
One Country in North America - USA
 One Country in Europe - Russian Federation
Among these countries,Nigeria's(Currently 7th largest by population)Population has been growing the most rapidly

Population in Africa,Caribbean and Asia are still young
In total these regions in the year 2015 account for -
1.7 Billion Children and
1.1 Billion Young Persons

In the year 2015,there are 901 Million people aged 60 years or more comprising 12% of the Global Population

In recent years the fertility has declined in all areas of the World
In Africa,where t he fertility was the highest,total fertility has fallen from 4.9 per woman in 2005-10 to 4.7 per woman in 2010-15
