Adani Group chairman Gautham S. Adani said the work for
the Vizhinjam seaport would commence on November 1, the Formation Day of
Kerala, as requested .
Overcoming several hurdles
for the last 24 years, the pact was inked between the Principal
Secretary, Ports, James Varghese, and Chief Executive Officer of AVPL
Santosh Kumar Mahoptra at the Durbar Hall of the Secretariat.
Chief
Minister Oommen Chandy described the signing of the agreement as a historic decision in the
development history of the State. He reiterated that the government
would step in to ensure that the project did not create any social and
environment issues, and that funds would not be a problem. “We have
assured the Adani group solid support and timely release of funds,” Mr.
Chandy said. The project was a victory of the people and the government
was dedicating it to Keralites, Mr. Babu said. “Confrontation is not our
policy and all issues will be solved through discussions,”

Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Anoop Jacob, UDF MLAs, BJP State

delegation of the Adani Group were present to witness the historic
moment.
PPP share
The PPP share is Rs.
4,089 crore and it is the first port project to get Rs.818 crore as
Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the Centre. The port operator has
sought Rs.1,635 crore as grant. The contract is for building the port
superstructure and operating it for 40 years, including four years of
construction
