The data thrown up by the Rapid Survey on Children
(RSOC), now available officially on the website of the Ministry of Women
and Child Development is an opportunity for Tamil Nadu to introspect
and identify sectors that need improvement.
The results of the RSOC, conducted for the period 2013-14, are intended
to strengthen the data system on children and women, based on a
nationwide household and facility survey in 28 States and Delhi.
The
focus is mainly on the well-being of children under 6 years and their
mothers, covering the aspects of maternal care, child development,
enabling environments, pre-school attendance, among others.
Keeping up with the general perception of Tamil Nadu as a State in the
forefront of public heath care delivery in India, the State does come
off looking shiny, compared to the national performance in areas of
child and maternal health
