Singapore Parliament dissolved ahead of poll Tuesday August 25,2015

Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Tuesday August 25,2015 dissolved Singapore’s Parliament ahead of the upcoming general election

The 2015 Singapore Parliament Election is scheduled to be held on  September 11,2015 and will be the 17th General Election in Singapore and the 12th since independence

In the last general election, Parliament was dissolved on April 19, 2011

Singapore has a total of 89 seats in 29 constituencies — comprising 13 Single Member Constituencies (SMCs) and 16 Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs)

The governing People's Action Party (PAP) has been in power since Singapore's independence in 1965, and is currently led by the  Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong

The leading Opposition party is the Worker's Party led by Low Thia Khiang

Party position in the outgoing parliament -89 Seats

  • People's Action Party (PAP) - 79 Seats
  • Worker's Party -7 Seats + 2 NCMP Seats
  • Singapore People's Party - 1NCMP Seat
