Kerala govt staff spare Sunday holiday in honour of Kalam

Kerala govt staff spare Sunday holiday to pay respect to Kalam
Paying homage to the late former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a section of Kerala government offices are functioning on Sunday Aug 02,2015
District Collectorates at Malappuram, Alappuzha and Ernakulam are working. Thiruvananthapuram Collectorate registered about 80 per cent attendance.
"Not only is our office working today (Sunday), but we have begun an anti-malaria drive too," chief of directorate of health services S. Jayashankar told

Reports from other districts also said that some government offices such as the village panchayats were open.
Earlier, there were some confusion over government offices functioning on Sunday as the Chief Secretary of Kerala Jiji Thomson and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy made contradictory statements on the matter.
Soon after Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson announced on Twitter that Sunday will be a working day, the CM's office had objected to it.
The former President passed away last Monday. Kalam had earlier mentioned in his post that the government should not declare a holiday on account of his death and urged people to work an extra day if they loved him.
