The most prestigious tournament in Badminton. Competing as individuals
in five events, Men’s singles, Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s
doubles and Mixed doubles, success conveys the title of World Champion
on the winner(s).
First held in 1977 and it was originally held once every three years (1977, 1980, 1983). From 1983 to 2005 it was held every two years, and from 2005 onwards it was held every year except during Olympic years where the winner of the Olympic title is considered the ‘world champion’

Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) hosted the prestigious 2nd
edition for the first time in 1980 and the sixth edtion in 1989 in
Jakarta. After twenty- six years lapsed, once again they host the 22nd
edition of BWF World championships from August 10-16,2015.
The
tournament will be held at Istora – Gelora Bung Karno Senayan a
multi-purpose arena, Jakarta with 9000 seating capacity
