46th Anniversary Apollo 11 Moon Landing July 20,1969 - July 20,2015

 

Apollo 11 was the Spaceflight  that landed the first humans on the Moon , Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin  on July 20, 1969 at 20:18 UTC

Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon surface six hours later on July 21 at 02:56 UTC

 

Launched by a Saturn V  Rocket from Kennedy Space Center in Merritt Island,Florida,USA on July 16, 1969Apollo 11 was the fifth manned mission of  NASA's Apollo Program

Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Michael Collins left Earth on July 16 from Cape Kennedy in Florida

Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stepped onto the moon and spent 21 hours, 36 minutes on the moon before joining back up with Michael Collins in the command module

Neil Armstrong spent his first few minutes on the Moon taking photographs and soil samples in case the mission had to be aborted suddenly.
They also unveiled a plaque bearing President Nixon's signature and an inscription reading: "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon July 1969 AD. We came in peace for all mankind."

They returned to Earth and landed in the Pacific Ocean on July 24,1969
