Computer hardware snag hits US visa services globally

Interviews for all non-immigrant visas to the United States have been put on hold in India following a hardware glitch in the State Department’s computer systems.

Interviews scheduled between June 22 and 26,2015 at the U.S. Embassy in Delhi and Consulates General in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad have been cancelled. Visa applicants with appointments during the period have been asked to reschedule their appointments for biometric enrolment and visa interview to a date after July 06,2015

The problems stem from a hardware failure in a State Department facility in the United States on June 09,2015.

That failure is preventing the department from processing and transmitting biometric data checks at visa-issuing embassies and consulates… Each visa decision is a national security decision, and we take our obligation to protect the United States seriously,” U.S. Embassy in Delhi said in a statement
