Charles Correa,one of India's greatest contemporary architects, passed away on Tuesday June 16,2015

 
Charles Correa, one of India's greatest contemporary architects, passed away on Tuesday June 16,2015 in Mumbai following a brief illness. He was 84.

Charles Correa was responsible for designing many landmark buildings including -

Gandhi Memorial at Sabarmati

Vidhan Bhavan in Bhopal

Permanent Mission of India at the UN, New York

 Kala Academy in Goa

Kanchanjunga residential tower in Mumbai

 Champalimaud Centre, Lisbon
 

Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur


LIC Building, Delhi


Born on September 1, 1930 in Secunderabad, Correa studied at St Xavier's College in Mumbai before going to the University of Michigan in 1949 and then the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1953.

Awards to Charles Correa
 Padma Vibhushan in 2006 and Padma Shri in 1972.
