Salman Khan Convicted in 2002 Hit -And-Run Case Wednesday May 06,2015

 

Salman Khan Found Guilty of Culpable Homicide 

Salman Khan has been convicted in a 13-year-old hit and run case.

Bombay Sessions Court concludes that Salman was driving the car under the influence of alcohol.

"All charges against you are proved," says Judge DW Deshpande. Quantum of punishment is yet to be announced.

The Court held him guilty of running over people sleeping on the pavement with his SUV on September 28, 2002.

Salman Khan(49) faces 10 years in jail, the punishment for culpable homicide.
He has also been found guilty of endangering the life and personal safety of others, drunk driving, not informing the police and leaving the spot after the accident.

He is also accused of failing to report an accident involving his vehicle.

The charges carry punishment ranging from six months to up to 10 years in jail.

Salman Khan had told the court that his driver Ashok Singh was driving the car at the time of the accident. But the court said, "You were driving the car."

The prosecution presented 27 witnesses including the actor's bodyguard, the bar staff, policemen and a parking attendant.

Salman Khan's driver Ashok Singh was the lone defence witness, and he corroborated the actor's version and owned responsibility for the accident.

1:25 pm: Salman Khan held sentenced to five years in jail for rash and negligent driving. He will be taken into custody immediately and sent to jail.

1:36 pm: Defence seeks a copy of the order to seek stay on the judgement.

4:51 pm: Bombay High Court grants two days interim bail to Salman Khan in 2002 hit-and-run case.
