Google celebrates Bartolomeo Cristofori's 360th birthday with a musical doodle Monday May 04,2015

Google on Monday May 04,2015 paid tribute to Italian Bartolomeo Cristofori, the inventor of piano, with a musical doodle on his 360th birth anniversary

The doodle features a man playing the piano demonstrates how the complex musical instrument functions.
Created by doodler Leon Hong, it also enables users to control the volume of the tune with a slider control on the doodle
“One of Cristofori’s “biggest innovations was creating a hammer mechanism that struck the strings on a keyboard to create sound. The use of a hammer made it possible to produce softer or louder sounds depending upon how light or hard a player pressed on the keys”, Google wrote on the blog dedicated to its doodles

The total number of pianos built by Cristofori is unknown, however, three survive today, all dating from the 1720s.

Bartolomeo Cristofori di Francesco was born on May 4, 1655, Padua in the Republic of Venice. He died on January 27, 1731.
