Rohan Bopanna Becomes India's Highest-Ranked Doubles Player

India's Rohan Bopanna gained three places to be world number 21, following his win at the 2015 Madrid Open with Romanian partner Florin Mergea.

Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna won his third title of the 2015 season and first with new partner Florin Mergea as they lifted the Madrid Open trophy with a tense win over Nenad Zimonjic and Martin Matkowski, here on Sunday May 10,2015
Rohan Bopanna and his Romanian partner saved a match point before overcoming the challenge of the fifth seeds 6-2, 6-7 (7-5), 11-9 in one hour and 24 minutes in the final of the euro 4,185,405 clay court Masters event.  


Rohan Bopanna gained 1000 points for his efforts and is now country's top ranked player in the ATP doubles chart. Leander Paes lost a place to be at number 24.

Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes are the only players from India in doubles top-100.

Rohan Bopanna was ranked number three in the world in July 2013 when he partnered Pakistan's Aisam-ul-haq Qureshi.

Note

In the singes, Somdev Devvarman continues to be top singles player at number 173 but he is now closely followed by Yuki Bhambri, who gained six places to be placed at 180.
