7.5 magnitude quake strikes near Papua New Guinea, tsunami warning issued

 This USGS map shows the epicentre of 7.4 magnitude that rocked Papua New Guinea on Tuesday.
A powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake rattled the island nation of Papua New Guinea sounding off a tsunami warning.

Authorities have warned of a the possibility of a tsunami within 300 kilometers of the quake's epicenter. Tuesday's quake was centered in the same area as the two earthquakes that rocked Papua New Guinea last week.

A 5.6 magnitude quake had also struck Papua New Guinea on Monday. Neither of the quakes have caused damage or generated a tsunami so far

The quake, downgraded from an initial estimate of 7.5, struck around 0140 GMT at a depth of 63 km and was the latest in a series of strong tremors to hit the region.
