Mysuru royal family announces new heir Thursday Feb 12,2015

The stalemate between the Karnataka government and the Mysuru royal family over selection of a successor ended on Thursday Feb 12,2015, as Rani Pramodadevi announced a new heir in Yaduveer Gopalaraje Urs to continue the famed Dasara traditions.

More than a year after the last scion of the royal family, Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar passed away, his successor was announced.

This comes as a major relief to the Congress government, which has been at loggerheads with the royal family over the assets, as Rani Pramodadevi (widow of Narasimharaja) had refused to appoint the successor.

Rani Pramodadevi, the widow of last scion of the royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, will have to adopt Yaduveer Gopalraje Urs for him to be formally named as the heir.Rani Pramodadevi, the widow of last scion of the royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, will have to adopt Yaduveer Gopalraje Urs for him to be formally named as the heir.

The 22-year-old scion is grandson of Pramodevi's eldest sister Princess Gayatri Devi. As per rules, Rani Pramodadevi will have to formally adopt Yaduveer and he will be appointed as the successor of the late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar at an elaborate ceremony at the royal palace (Ambavilas Palace) in Mysuru on February 23,2015
