Facing the Vyapam scandal heat, Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav resigned from his office on Wednesday.
He
was earlier asked by the Centre to step down after a First Information
Report (FIR) was registered against him on Tuesday in connection with
the scam that has rocked the state.
The FIR was registered by the Special Task Force (STF) that is investigating the multi-crore Vyapam scam.
The
FIR was registered after a division bench of the Madhya Pradesh High
Court comprising Chief Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice Alok Aradhe
had said: “The STF is free to proceed against the high dignitary.”
Yadav,
a former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, was appointed by the Congress in
2011 and his term was set to end in September 2016.
