2015 Sri Rangam Assembly By-Election Result Monday Feb 16,2015

 

 Srirangam Assembly constituency which went to polls on Friday Feb 13,2015, saw a turnout of 81.83 % The seat fell vacant following the conviction of J Jayalalithaa in the DA case

81.83 % of the 2,70,281 voters in Srirangam had cast their votes.
Votes polled: 2,21,172
Men: 1,08,026; Women: 1,13,138 
29 candidates, including those of AIADMK, DMK, BJP and CPI (M), contested the by-election 

J Jayalalithaa won from Srirangam constituency in 2011 defeating her DMK rival N. Anand by a margin of 41,848 votes.

 08: 07 am: Counting process begins - electronic voting machines are being taken from strong rooms to counting tables. Counting will be taken up in 14 tables and 23 rounds. Micro observers have been appointed to supervise counting in each table

AIADMK establishes early lead at end of round 1

At the end of round 1, results are coming in - AIADMK with 6234 votes ;DMK with 1950; BJP with 170 and CPI (M) with 27 votes. NOTA has garnered in 64 votes.
 

At the end of round 6, here's the tally: AIADMK 38,784, DMK 13861, BJP 1180, CPI (M) 384 and AIADMK leads by 19,987 votes over DMK. 

End of Round 23: AIADMK 1,51,561; DMK 55,045; BJP 5015; CPI (M) 1,552; Nota 1,919 

In a major boost to the ruling AIADMK, which has been going through a difficult phase after the conviction of its general secretary, Jayalalithaa, in a corruption case last year, its candidate scored a massive victory in the Srirangam Assembly constituency on Monday Feb 16,2015

Shortly after the Srirangam Assembly by-election result was declared on Monday, AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa said the verdict had proved that her party had the strength to defeat all “conspiracies” hatched by political opponents.
In a statement thanking the electorate, she said: “The by-election result, especially the huge margin of victory, only shows that our party has the strength to overcome all odds and defeat the conspiracies hatched by wicked political opponents.”

 

AIADMK wins by margin of over 90,000 votes

S. Valarmathi (AIADMK) polled 1,51,561 votes, the DMK candidate N. Anand got 55,045. The BJP and the CPI(M) candidates and 22 Independents forfeited their deposits.
