R K Laxman Dies Monday Jan 26,2015

 
Eminent cartoonist, humourist and illustrator R K Laxman, who created “the Common Man”, passed away in Pune on Monday Jan 26,2015 aged 94 after prolonged illness

R K Laxman was the younger brother of R K Narayan, the famous writer whose work was set around the fictional south Indian town of Malgudi. Laxman had been living in Pune for several years.

R K Laxman  had suffered a stroke in August 2003. and a mild stroke again in 2010. Earlier, he had developed complications in his throat and kidneys. Laxman had other medical issues like diabetes and hypertension.

R K Laxman  is best known for his creation “the Common Man” for his daily cartoon strip “You Said It” started in 1951 in “The Times of India”.
