Narendra Modi's First Cabinet Expansion Today Sunday Nov 09,2014

Ahead of the Cabinet expansion and reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers, Prime Minister 

Narendra Modi on Sunday Nov 09,2014  hosted a breakfast meet for the new faces to be inducted in his Cabinet.

Manohar Parrikar, who is tipped to be the next Defence Minister, BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Olympian shooter-turned-politician Rajyavardhan Rathore and BJP MP from West Bengal Babul Supriyo are among those who attended the breakfast meet.

Around 20 new faces are expected to be inducted into the Union Council of Ministers in the first revamp exercise which is likely to bring in BJP leaders Mr. Parrikar, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Rudy and Bandaru Dattatreya while elevating a few.

The list of ministers expected to be sworn-in today are -

1)Manohar Parrikar He is the first IITian to become the Chief Minister of any Indian state. Mr. Parrikar said that he had decided to accept the offer of Union Cabinet seat as a matter of “national interest” although he also said that he was extremely attached to Goa. 
2)Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi is BJP’s prominent Muslim face and is a vice-president of the party. He is also the party’s youth wing president. In 1998 he was appointed Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and was also given responsibility over the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. 
3)Bandaru Dattatreya He is a former Union Minister for Railways and was appointed as chairman of parliamentary committee on OBC welfare. He was re-elected to 16th lok Sabha from Secunderabad Constituency. He was the president of the Telangana of the BJP. 
4)Prakash Javdekar He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2008. He was instrumental in lodging complaint against alleged irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks during the UPA regime. A former banker, he was previously a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council for two terms. 
5)Rajiv Pratap Rudy He is the BJP MP from Saran constituency in Bihar. He is also the general secretary of the BJP. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections Mr. Rudy defeated former Bihar CM Rabri Devi. 
6)Anil Desai The Rajya Sabha member is believed to be one of the trusted aides of Uddhav Thackeray.The BJP and the Shiv Sena appeared to have resolved their differences with the latter deciding to nominate Mr. Desai to be included in the Union Cabinet. 
7)Suresh Prabhu Suresh Prabhu, a former Cabinet minister, is the head of a high-level panel on power revamp — “Advisory Group for Integrated Development of Power, Coal and Renewable Energy”. Mr. Prabhu was the initiator of reforms in the power sector during his tenure as Power Minister in the former NDA government when he had piloted the integrated electricity bill and the law for setting up a regulator. 
8)Y.S. Chowdary A first-time Rajya Sabha member, Mr. Chowdary is the second MP from the Telugu Desam Party, to be inducted into the Cabinet, the first being Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, who represents the Vizianagaram constituency. He is popularly known as ‘Sujana’ Chowdary for founding the Sujana group of industries which manufactures home appliances. 
9)Babul Supriyo He is a popular singer and BJP MP from West Bengal’s Asansol seat. He will be the first Minster from West Bengal in the National Democratic Alliance government. 
10)Ram Kripal Yadav The BJP Patliputra MP will be the party’s “Yadav” face in next year’s Assembly elections, challenging his erstwhile leader and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad
11)J.P. Nadda He is the Rajya Sabha member from Himachal Pradesh and is also the national general secretary of the BJP. He also served as the President of Olympic Association, Himachal Pradesh from 2008 to 2012. 
12)Anurag Thakur He is the Lok Sabha member from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh. He is currently the joint secretary of BCCI. Mr Thakur is known for making Himachal Pradesh capable of holding international standards cricket in the state. He is the son of Prem Kumar Dhumal, former Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. 
13)Jayant Sinha He is the Lok Sabha MP from Hazaribagh constituency, Jharkhand. Mr Sinha, son of Yashwant Sinha was an investment professional and an alumunus of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and Harvard Business School. At McKinsey, Mr. Sinha co-led the global Software and IT Services practice. 
14)Birendra Singh He is a Jat leader from Haryana. In August, Birendra Singh ended his four-decade-long association with the Congress and joined the BJP. Mr. Singh is one of the many Congress leader to have shifted their loyalties to the BJP in the recent months. 
15)Ramdas Athavale The president of the RPI (A), was promised a Cabinet berth when the party entered into an alliance with the BJP for the Lok Sabha election. He represents the Pandharpur constituency of Maharashtra. 
16)Hansraj Gangaram Ahir He is an MP from Maharashtra who is credited with uncovering the coal block scam. 
17)Giriraj Singh A senior party leader who recently stoked controversy with his speeches during the election campaign wherein he said that those who opposed Modi belong in Pakistan. The statement drew flak from the Opposition parties and Election Commission. The BJP distanced itself from Mr Singh’s remarks. 
18)Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore He is a first time MP from Jaipur Rural and also an Olympian shooter. He is a recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards. 
19)Vijay Sampla He is a BJP MP from Hoshiarpur Lok Sabha constituency.

 Cabinet Expansion: PM Narendra Modi to Meet New Ministers Today
The 21 new faces in Modi’s team featured a Harvard MBA, a man who began as a plumber and worked his way up, two PhDs, an Olympic silver medallist, a chartered accountant and a trained pilot. 

The strength of the Council of Ministers went up from 45 to 66, with 27, including the Prime Minister, of Cabinet rank, 13 Ministers of State with independent charge and 26 Ministers of State.

Portfolios were announced late on Sunday well after the swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan. The big changes were defence to former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, and railways to former Sena leader turned-BJP member Suresh Prabhu. 
Former Congress leader from Haryana Birender Singh was given charge of rural development, panchayati raj and drinking water, held by Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari after the unfortunate death of the BJP’s Maharashtra strongman Gopinath Munde. 
Major demotions included D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who lost railways to Suresh Prabhu, Ravi Shankar Prasad, who lost the law ministry to Gowda but retained telecom, and Dr Harsh Vardhan, who lost health and family welfare to J.P. Nadda but was moved to Science and Technology as a possible first step towards being the chief ministerial face in the BJP’s upcoming Delhi Assembly campaign. Prakash Javadekar also lost Information and Broadcasting to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. 
First-time MPs who were rewarded include Jayant Sinha, who has become a junior minister in the finance ministry, and Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who has been similarly placed in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. 

The only woman to be included in today's exercise was Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti. The saffron- robed 47-year-old was sworn in as a minister of state.

The two Dalit faces of this expansion are Agra MP Ramshankar Katheria and Hoshiarpur MP Vijay Sampla. 

Three new ministers, including Mr. Prabhu, have recently crossed over to the BJP from other parties. The other two are Ram Kripal Yadav, formerly of the RJD and former Congress MP Birender Singh. Mr. Yadav had defeated Former Bihar CM and Rail Minister Lalu Yadav's daughter Misa Bharati in Pataliputra.
Birender Singh and Sanwar Lal Jat are the prominent Jat faces in the expansion. Mr. Jat defeated Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee President Sachin Pilot from Ajmer in the Lok Sabha polls earlier this year.

Controversial names on the list include Bihar MP Giriraj Singh and Himachal Pradesh MP J.P. Nadda. Mr. Singh had commented during the Lok Sabha campaign that those who oppose Mr. Modi must go to Pakistan. Mr. Nadda requested for the removal of All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi Chief Vigilance Officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi who cracked down against corruption.



 The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice President Hamid Ansari, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson P.J. Kurien, Modi and his Cabinet colleagues, BJP president Amit Shah and party patriarch L.K. Advani. 

Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states like Vasundhara Raje, Raman Singh, Devendra Fadnavis and Manohar Lal Khattar and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP were present. 

No one from the Congress attended the ceremony. 

Nearly Half of Narendra Modi's new cabinet have criminal cases against them and majority are crorepatis worth an average of Rs 18.48 crore

 
Among the newly-inducted ministers, the highest increase in assets was registered in the case of Mahesh Sharma from Gautam Budh Nagar, whose worth rose from Rs 15.85 crore in 2009 to Rs 47.37 crore this year

As far as the financial background of the ministers is concerned, the average assets of the new ministers were worth Rs 18.48 crore. 

Yalamanchili Satyanarayana Chowdary, a Rajya Sabha member from Andhra Pradesh, declared the highest total assets of Rs 189.69 crore, followed by Jayant Sinha from Hazaribagh constituency with assets of Rs 55.67 crore and Mahesh Sharma from Gautam Budh Nagar with total assets of Rs 47.37 crore. 

Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti from Fatehpur declared the lowest total assets of Rs 37.63 lakh.
Five members of the Council of Ministers had declared assets of less than Rs 1 crore. Seven members of the council of ministers have total assets worth over Rs 30 crore, including Arun Jaitley (Rs 113 crore) and Harsimrat Kaur Badal (Rs 108 crore).
8 of the new ministers have declared criminal cases against themselves and four are facing serious criminal cases. 
Of the total Council of Ministers, 20 - or 31 % - have declared criminal cases against themselves, while 11 ministers or 17 % are facing serious criminal cases like attempted murder, inciting communal disharmony and electoral violations.
