45th International Festival of India Goa,India Nov 20-30,2014

 
The 1st edition of IFFI was organized by the Films Division, Government of India, with the patronage of the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru. Held in Mumbai from 24 January to 1 February 1952

Since its beginnings in 1952 the IFFI has been the biggest event of its type in India. Subsequent IFFI’s were held in New Delhi. From the 3rd edition in January 1965, IFFI’s became competitive. In 1975 the Filmotsav, non-competitive and to be held in other filmmaking cities in alternate years, was introduced. Later, Filmotsavs were merged in IFFI’s. In 2004 the IFFI was moved to Goa. Since then the IFFI has been an annual event and competitive

The 45th International Film Festival of India begins in Goa on Thursday Nov 20,2014 where mega-star of Indian cinema Amitabh Bachchan will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony


Superstar Rajinikanth, the guest of honour, will be given the centenary award for Indian Film Personality of the year



Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore were present at the function.

For the first time the festival will be inaugurated at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium at Bambolim, about eight kilometers from Panaji.


 Raveena Tandon, who had hosted the opening ceremony of 45th edition of International Film Festival of India which opened on November 20 at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium, shared with us the reason to be in Goa.

"I'm really excited to be here at IFFI. It has always proved to be a great opportunity for films to get huge recognition. And yes, I'm here at IFFI because I have immense love and respect for the festival. IFFI isn't a commercial award show, it is done sincerely."
"I'm happy that Rajinikanthji is being given the Centenary Award at the opening ceremony of IFFI. He is the heartthrob of India, and truly deserves it," she added.


The 11-day festival will also screen 179 films from 75 countries across different categories which include World Cinema (61 films), Masterstrokes (11 films), Festival Kaleidoscope (20 films), Soul of Asia (7 films), Documentaries (6 films), and Animated Films (6 films).

The Indian Panorama section will include 41 feature and non-feature films. Seven films from the India's North-Eastern region will also be screened at the event, as part of a special package.

"In all sixty two films in the world cinema section will be screened, while 15 films will be screened in the IFFI's competition section this year," says Shankar Mohan, a senior official of the Union ministery for Information and Broadcasting, who is also Director of the IFFI.
