West Indies Cricket Team Abandon India Tour Friday Oct 17,2014

The series between India and the West Indies appears to be over
West Indies Cricket Team pulled out from the remainder of the tour due to an ongoing payment dispute between the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board) and WIPA (West Indies Players Association).

The West Indies will not play the remaining five matches which were scheduled - the fifth one day international, a T20 international and three Test matches.

The West Indies team have been in dispute with the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) over the signing of a new collective bargaining agreement and memorandum of understanding (MoU), which would see sponsorship payments reallocated to fund the wider professional game in the islands.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) said it had been left with no choice but to abandon its tour of India after its players "withdrew their services" amid an internal dispute.

The board said in a statement it had held an emergency meeting on Friday Oct 17,2014 to discuss developments in India, where the team had another one-dayer, a Twenty20 international and three test matches left to play on the tour.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced earlier on Friday Oc 17,2014 that the visitors had abandoned the series and were to fly home after the fourth one-day international in Dharamsala.

The WICB said it had offered to provide a replacement team but India had declined that offer.

The BCCI announced Sri Lanka had stepped in to fill the void and will play a five-match one-day series in India next month.
