The Election Commission of India has announced on Saturday Oct 25,2014 5-Phase Polling for the 81-seat Jharkhand Assembly


Poll Schedule


The states of Jammu Kashmir and Jharkhand  will vote in five phases between November 25 and December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23 in both the states.

Counting of Votes -Dec 23,2014
The counting of votes will take place on December 23 to enable the new governments in the two States to be sworn in before January 3,2015 in Jharkhand and January 19,2015 in Jammu and Kashmir

With the Election Commission announcing the Jharkhand polls to be held in five phases between November 25 and December 20, the electorate will also be looking forward to a strong and stable majority government this time. 

With the Assembly election dates announced and the Lok Sabha poll results still afresh in the minds of the people of the state, political parties in Jharkhand are getting in action to emerge victorious against the BJP

Under Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is leading a coalition government in Jharkhand. 

The ruling coalition government is facing a strong anti-incumbency wave. Corruption and a string of weak coalition governments have dogged the progress of the mineral-rich state. 

Jharkhand has seen the President’s Rule on three occasions. After the recent poll results and the party’s performance in the general elections earlier this year, the BJP may go solo in Jharkhand as per the strategy adopted by Modi’s trusted aide and campaign manager Amit Shah. The BJP had cornered 12 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand. 

After the impressive results in Haryana and Maharashtra, the BJP is now fancying its chances of assuming power in Jharkhand. 

Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda called upon BJP workers to work hard and ensure a repeat of the recent poll performance in Jharkhand. 

The BJP, which bagged 12 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats, is not willing to take any risk either. Party leaders have decided to convene a few meetings to finalise the future course of action and strategies to lead the party towards a single-party government, free of coalition.

Shibu Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which managed to win only two seats in the Lok Sabha elections, will contest all 81 seats in the Assembly polls. 

“As of now, we have decided to go alone but we are not going to walk out of the state coalition,” JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said.

Babulal Marandi’s Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) failed to secure even a single seat in the Lok Sabha polls. 

However, it too will contest the Assembly elections from all 81 constituencies. 

JMM, Congress part ways

Its official now. The 475-days-old grand alliance between the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the Congress in Jharkhand has finally broken off with both the party leaders announcing to contest the forthcoming assembly elections on all 81 seats separately. 

BJP announces list of 63 candidates

The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) on Sunday Nov 02,2014 evening released a list of 63 candidates for upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections.

The meeting was attended by PM Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and all the members of the Central Election Committee of the BJP.
