Marin Cilic beat Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to win the US Open men's singles


Croatia's Cilic won his first Grand Slam title by beating Japan's Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 on Monday Sep 08,2014 at Flushing Meadows, using 17 aces - including four in one game

The 14th-seeded Cilic prevented the 10th-seeded Nishikori from becoming the first man from Asia to win a major singles championship.

The US Open final that nobody predicted and not everyone wanted was seized on Monday night with unblinking composure by Croatian giant Marin Cilic.

The No. 14 seed completed his third consecutive straight sets win to defeat a somewhat overwhelmed Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in less than two hours to deny Japan its equally unlikely Grand Slam winner.

Among the celebs in attendance on this historic day were Bill Gates, Bruce Willis and Emma Heming, Olivia Munn, Christie Brinkley, Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan, Anna Kournikova, Andy Cohen, Jeff Gordon, and Liev Schreiber, with son Samuel.
