Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday Aug 11,2014 presented cash incentives to seven
sportspersons from the State who won medals in the just-concluded
Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
At an event at the Secretariat here, she gave away cheques for Rs. 50
lakh each to S. Satheesh Kumar, weightlifter, who won the gold medal in
the 77-kg category; Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal, squash players,
who bagged the women’s doubles gold medal.
Ms Jayalalithaa also handed over cheques for Rs. 30 lakh each to Achanta
Sharath Kamal and Anthony Amalraj, table tennis players, who got silver
medal in the men’s doubles section, and Rupinder Pal Singh and Sreejesh
Parattu Raveendran, members of the Indian hockey team that won silver
medal. The cash incentive totalled Rs. 2.7 crore.
The Chief Minister also congratulated the players individually
