Robin Williams(63), the beloved comic is found dead in apparent suicide at his California home following a long battle against depression

Robin Williams hanged himself with a belt Sunday night while his wife slept in a nearby bedroom, it has been revealed.
The 63-year-old Williams was last seen alive about 10.30pm on Sunday by his third wife Susan Schneider when she went to bed. Williams locked himself in a different bedroom, Marin County Sheriff's Lieutenant Keith Boyd

By the time an assistant found the Oscar-winning actor's body at 11.55am on Monday, rigor mortis had set in. It normally takes 12 to 18 hours for a body to stiffen after death.
An assistant, worried when Williams couldn't be roused at 11.45am, broke into the bedroom. Williams was found clothed, in a seated position with a belt around his neck.

He had several superficial cuts on the inside of his left wrist. A pocket knife with what appeared to be dried blood was discovered nearby.

A statement by the Marin County Sheriff's Department in California said: 'On August 11, 2014, at approximately 11:55 am, Marin County Communications received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his residence in unincorporated Tiburon, California. The male subject, pronounced deceased at 12:02 pm has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams.'

Susan Schneider, Williams wife since 2011, was the last to see her husband alive when she went to bed about 10.30pm on Sunday. He was found dead less than 14 hours later

Robin Williams has left his estate valued at $50 million to his three children - with his wife Susan Schneider cared for under the terms of a  prenup they signed before their 2011 wedding. 

His beloved children, Zachary, 31, Zelda, 25, and Cody, 22, are looked after by the Robin Williams Trust, which is now being run by a trustee.

And after two failed marriages which reportedly cost him $30 million, Robin ensured that he and his third wife Susan signed a prenup agreement, which is dated September 28, 2011.

US President Barack Obama has led the tributes to Robin Williams after the comic genius was found dead aged 63 from an apparent suicide in his home, police in California said on Monday night.
Praising the Oscar winning actor's versatility, the president issued a touching statement, speaking volumes for the comedian and his huge impact on American culture throughout the past 35-years.
'Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien - but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit.
'He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most - from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin's family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.'
