  • Their only defeat in the last 26 games came against Switzerland last August (W19, D6, L1).
  • They are unbeaten in 42 successive home matches, with their last defeat coming against Paraguay in August 2002.
  • The Brazilians have reached the last four of the World Cup for the 11th time, although this will only be their eighth semi-final (because of different formats at earlier tournaments).
  • The only semi-final they have lost was their first, against Italy in 1938. They have won five times and drawn once - with that draw followed by a penalty shootout win against the Dutch in 1998.
  • Injured Brazilian striker Neymar has played a part in 50% of Brazil's 10 goals at this World Cup (four goals, one assist).
Germany
  • Germany (including West Germany) have reached the last four for the 13th time at a World Cup, although this will be their 12th semi-final (they reached the 1974 final after coming through a second group stage).
  • The Germans are the first country to reach four successive World Cup semi-finals.
  • Their record in their 11 previous semi-finals is four wins, five defeats and two draws - both of which were followed by penalty shootouts which they won.
  • Germany are unbeaten in their last 16 internationals (W11, D5), the best run of any side still involved at the World Cup.
  • Germany (three) have kept more clean sheets at this World Cup than any other country. Only Ghana and Algeria have managed to breach the Germans defence so far.
  • Miroslav Klose could make his 23rd appearance in a World Cup match, a total bettered only by Lothar Matthaus (25). Paolo Maldini also played 23 games at the tournament.

Amazing Germany

There were 179 seconds between Germany's second and fourth goals. Germany striker Miroslav Klose becomes World Cup history's record goalscorer with 16 goals in 23 games.
Germany were 5-0 up after 29 minutes - faster than any team in World Cup history. Germany netted as many goals in this semi-final as they had in their previous six (1982-2010).
Germany are now the highest scorers in World Cup history with 223 goals, overtaking Brazil. Germany are the first team to score seven times in a World Cup semi-final
Thomas Muller has scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 12 World Cup matches. Germany have scored more goals in this tournament than they did in 1990 and 1966 - a total of 16.

Brazil's World Cup dreams ended in humiliating and brutal fashion as Germany inflicted their heaviest defeat in the SF-1 in Belo Horizonte
Germany were 5-0 up inside 29 remarkable minutes in front of a disbelieving Estadio Mineirao crowd
The result was their first competitive home defeat in 39 years, and the end of their hopes of making it to the World Cup final at the iconic Maracana on Sunday.
This equalled Brazil's heaviest margin of defeat, a 6-0 loss at the hands of Uruguay in the 1920 Copa America, but the impact of this reverse, not just on the world stage but in their homeland, will put this alongside the 1950 World Cup final defeat by the Uruguayans in Rio as their darkest football day.
This was Brazil's first defeat at home for 12 years. The loss for a country built on sporting pride, and at their own World Cup, will be bad enough to take. The scale of defeat will take the inquests to a new level.
This was the first time a team had scored seven in a World Cup semi-final, and the biggest defeat in one of these games since West Germany beat Austria 6-1 in 1954.

Match facts

This is the first time a team have scored seven goals in a World Cup semi-final. This is the first World Cup game with eight or more goals since Saudi Arabia v Germany in 2002 (0-8).
No team had previously conceded five or more goals by half-time in a World Cup semi-final. This is Brazil's biggest defeat in World Cup finals history, surpassing their 3-0 loss to France in the final in 1998.
Germany scored two more goals in this game, 7, than England did in their past two World Cups combined. Brazil's first shot on target was in the 51st minute.

Humiliated Brazil

Brazil have never before conceded more than five goals in a World Cup game (winning 6-5 against Poland in 1938). The game equals Brazil's all-time biggest margin of defeat, when they lost 6-0 to Uruguay in 1920.
It is the first time since 1938 that Brazil have lost a World Cup semi-final, having progressed in their previous six. The previous biggest defeat in a semi-final was in 1954 when Germany beat Austria 6-1.

Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari described Brazil's 7-1 loss to Germany as "the worst day" of his life, and said he took responsibility

Scolari described the result, which surpassed the 3-0 defeat by France in the 1998 final as Brazil's heaviest World Cup loss, as "catastrophic".
"My message for the Brazilian people is please excuse us for this performance,"

Tearful Brazil captain David Luiz apologised to his compatriots after the hosts suffered a humiliating 7-1 World Cup SF-1 defeat by Germany

"They were better than us," said Luiz, who captained Brazil in the absence of Thiago Silva. "It's a very sad day but it's also a day from which to learn.
"Apologies to all the Brazilian people. I just wanted to see my people smile."
Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar described his team's collapse as a "blackout" and the defeat as "inexplicable"

Germany's Thomas Mueller who scored his fifth goal of the tournament in the thrashing, admitted he was shocked by the scale of the victory.
“I don’t know what to say to be honest,” Mueller said.
“I can’t believe it. It’s something totally crazy. It just went well today,” added Mueller, whose team will now face either Argentina or the Netherlands in Sunday’s final at the Maracana.

Brazil’s national media described the result as the “Shame of Shames.”
The sport’s daily Lance called Tuesday’s crushing loss “The Biggest Shame in History.”

Brazilian supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio pouted and did a two thumbs down pose for the cameras following the disappointing 7-1 result by her home team
Adriana Lima was equally devastated with the effort of her home side
