China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj's Meeting Sunday June 08,2014


Trade and investment drove the first India-China talks under the new government as the meeting between visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj stretched past three hours on Sunday June 08,2014


India and China have set a target of $100 billion in bilateral trade a year by 2015, a goal which the two Ministers spoke about in their meetings
The recent visit of the Chinese
Foreign Minister was an attempt to
strengthen ties with the new regime


India’s concerns over the vast trade deficit of $ 31 billion out of bilateral trade of $ 65 billion last year came up, as Sushma Swaraj is also learnt to have spoken of more investment from China into Indian infrastructure, particularly in the Railway sector


The two Ministers discussed the next steps on the long-standing border row as well as a road map for all the upcoming meetings between high-level Indian and Chinese dignitaries in the next few months of 2014, a year designated as the China-India Year of Friendly Exchanges

During his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese Foreign MinisterWang Yi conveyed a message from Chinese President XI that praised Modi's leadership.
"India and China are partners in long-term strategic cooperation. Therefore, let's work together to achieve peaceful cooperation and inclusive development for the benefit of our two people and in the interest of peace, stability and prosperity in Asia and in the world," the message said.
Narendra Modi reiterated India's invitation to Xi to visit India this year.
Narendra Modi also accepted Premier Li Keqiang's invitation to pay an early visit to China. He emphasised the potential for greater cooperation for a strong and prosperous Asia.
