China unveils map annexing Indian territory on 60th anniversary of Panchsheel Treaty

Vice President Hamid Ansari on Thursday June 26,2014 left on a five-day visit to China where he will hold bilateral discussions with his counterpart Li Yuanchao and attend events to mark the 60th anniversary of Panchsheel agreement.

It is also Vice President Hamid Ansari’s first visit to China, and the first by an Indian Vice President since 1994. The then Vice President K. R. Narayanan had visited China in 1994.

The day Vice-President Hamid Ansari flew to Beijing to join celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of Panchsheel, the five principles of peaceful coexistence, a new map unveiled by Chinese authorities highlighted the country's claim on Indian territory, including the whole of Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The "new vertical atlas of China", issued by the Hunan map publishing house, differs from an earlier map in that it clearly shows disputed areas claimed by Beijing as part of Chinese territory instead of showing them in a little box in a corner at the bottom.
The map shows the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh, which is claimed by Beijing and was at the heart of a brief but bitter border war in 1962, as Chinese territory.

Large chunks of Jammu and Kashmir are also included as part of China.
India and China have differing perceptions of the Line of Actual Control and there have been several incursions by Chinese troops since last year.

The map also shows Taiwan and the archipelagoes of Spratlys and Paracels in the South China Sea as part of China.
The two archipelagoes are also claimed by Vietnam, the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries

The map further depicts China's sea boundary in the South China Sea, through which $5.3trillion worth of goods are traded every year, extending to the coasts of Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines.
