Novak Djokovic Vs Roger Federer

Roger Federer will be chasing a record eighth Wimbledon title and 18th Grand Slam crown overall in what will be his 25th championship match at a major while top seed Djokovic, the champion in 2011, targets a seventh major in his third Wimbledon final in four years.

Roger Federer will take an 18-16 career lead over Novak Djokovic into Sunday's championship match. 

 

Boris Becker(Coach of Novak Djokovic) and Stefan Edberg(coach of Roger Federer) faced off 35 times in their career, with three of those being on this very same occasion.

 Now the rivalry rekindles itself by proxy, with their respective coaching charges Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer going for the ultimate prize.

It is a sweet coincidence that this will also be the 35th meeting between this afternoon’s finalists, although their career record against each other (18-16 to the Swiss) is much closer than the 25-10 superiority of the German over the Swede.

Turning 33 next month and now the father of four, the extraordinary Federer somehow managed to  turn Sunday’s Wimbledon final into a marathon

Novak Djokovic finally prevailed 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 in just under four hours

HOW THE MATCH WAS WON

FIRST SET: 7-6 (9-7) Federer – both players produce their best tennis throughout, with no break points on offer. A trademark ace helps the seven-time champion to the tie-break win.
SECOND SET: 6-4 Djokovic – The Serb breaks Federer early on and never looks back, with only two unforced errors in the whole set.
THIRD SET: 7-6 (7-4) Djokovic – Again neck and neck with no breaks, but this time Novak dominates the tie-break.
FOURTH SET: 7-5 Federer – The most thrilling set in the match by far, with five breaks of serve. Djokovi leads 5-2 but throws it all away, missing  championship point in the process. Federer wins five games in a row to send it into a decider.
FIFTH SET: 6-4 Djokovic – Both men on their last legs but the 27-year-old finds some of his best tennis when it matters most. A few unforced errors from Federer help Djokovic break him for the championship.

Not a single American tennis player reaches the last 16 at Wimbledon for first time in 103 years

The last two of 23 U.S. entrants departed on Monday. First, Madison Keys withdrew because of a strained left thigh before the scheduled resumption of her third-round match that was suspended because of darkness on Saturday.

Then, No. 9 John Isner lost his third-round match despite hitting 52 aces, eliminated 6-7 (8), 7-6 (6), 7-6 (3), 7-5 by 19th-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain.

In 2014 Wimbledon, there were 13 women from the United States, including No. 1-seeded Serena Williams, a five-time Wimbledon champion who lost her third-round match Saturday.

There were 10 U.S. men in the field, but John Isner was the only one ranked inside the top 65.

Last year at Wimbledon, no American men made it to the third round. No man from the country has played in the quarterfinals at any Grand Slam tournament since 2011, and the last to win a major championship was the now-retired Andy Roddick at the 2003 U.S. Open.
