Indian National Congress(INC) needs allies to reach the 54 seats needed to form the Opposition

As the Congress has just 44 seats in the Lok Sabha, less than the 54 needed or 10 per cent for it to be officially given the post of Leader of Opposition, the party will now appeal to the new Speaker to recognise the UPA as a block of parties who had a pre-poll alliance.

The CWC on Monday May 19,2014 had authorised Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Congress VP Rahul Gandhi to make any change they deem fit in the party. The duo were largely absolved of all blame despite a feeling within the party that Rahul's advisors were largely responsible for the lacklustre campaign.
