Lendl Simmons(MI)Scores the First Ton of the season to help MI beat KXIP at the PCA Stadium Mohali on Wednesday May 21,2014

When Simmons tucked Shivam Sharma to the midwicket region for a single to complete his century in the 19th over, it seemed as if it was certain to happen and the West Indian was bound to score the season's first ton.

Mumbai Indians(MI)inflicted a seven-wicket defeat on Kings XI Punjab(KXIP) and also kept their slim hope of making it to the play-offs alive, although the defending champions only have a mathematical chance of making it possible

Chasing KXIP's 156/8,Simmons gave the initial impetus to MI's run-chase and with Michael Hussey added 68 runs for the opening wicket in seven overs.

KXIP started on a bright note with Virender Sehwag hitting a boundary off the first delivery of the innings.

Sehwag looked good before being run out in unfortunate fashion. Punjab, playing their first match at Mohali, brought in Shaun Marsh in place of David Miller. Shaun Marsh batted brilliantly for his 30 of just 17 balls

All the hype around Glenn Maxwell lasted just three balls, and it seems the leg-spinners have found a chink in his armour. The Australian all-rounder has been dismissed by leg-spinners in his last five innings, and on Wednesday, it was little known leggie Shreyas Gopal who got rid of him for just two runs.
