Section 144 Imposed in Tamil Nadu on Polling Day To Curb Distribution of Money to Voters

As campaigning came to an end in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday April 22,2014 the Election Commission directed imposition of prohibitory orders in all 39 constituencies in an attempt to curb bribing of voters amid complaints about distribution of money across the state.

For the first time during an election, Section 144 Cr PC was invoked in entire Tamil Nadu, prohibiting unlawful assembly of more than five persons.

"The order will be in force between 6pm on Tuesday and 6am on Thursday  April 24,2014 , the polling day," chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar said. "It has been done to check money distribution and maintain law and order," he added.
