Kumar Sangakkara & Mahela Jayawardene To Quit T20 Cricket After 2014 ICC T20 World Cup


Kumar Sangakkara has announced he will retire from international Twenty20 cricket after the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh
He has played 50 matches in Sri Lanka colours in the shortest format of the game, scoring 1,311 runs at an average of 32.77 with a strike rate of 120.

Kumar Sangakkara captained Sri Lanka to the final of the 2009 tournament, when they were beaten by Pakistan at Lord's, and he was integral in their run to the 2012 final when the West Indies came out on top.

Mahela Jayawardene has appeared in all four T20 World Cups until now and 2014 event in Bangladesh will be his last one

Jayawardene has played 49 T20s to date, scoring 1335 runs at 31.78, with a strike rate of 134.17. He has one century in the format — a 100 which is also his highest T20 score — which came against Zimbabwe in Guyana during the 2010 World T20. He has scored eight half-centuries in T20 international matches.

  1. Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara will be missed in the T20 series for sure. Loved watching him play. Followed all the matches on www.starsports.com and Sangakkara is one of my favourites in the Sri Lankan Team.
