Shane Watson Named Captain of Rajasthan Royals for the 2014 IPL 7 Season Monday March 10,2014

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has been the most consistent performer for Rajasthan Royals over the years, and the franchise has now handed him the additional responsibility of captaincy

Shane Watson was the Player of the Tournament in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, and is only the second player to win back-to-back Allan Border Medals after being adjudged the best Australian international cricketer in 2010 and 2011.

Shane Watson was adjudged Player of the IPL Tournament in 2008 as well as 2013.

"I am honoured to lead the Rajasthan Royals, an extraordinary team which has always given me amazing opportunities.
"Shane Warne and Rahul Dravid had a lot of faith in me while they were captains and gave me opportunities that helped improve my cricket. I hope to live up to the confidence shown in me by the franchise and give our fans an exciting season of cricket," Shane Watson said.

With Rahul Dravid retiring from the game, the post of skipper was vacant and the Royals announced on Monday March 10,2014 that Watson will step into the shoes of Rahul Dravid

However,Rahul  Dravid will not sever his links with the team and has been appointed mentor, who will provide inputs regarding cricket strategy and talent development initiatives.

Paddy Upton will continue as Head Coach for the Rajasthan Royals

The 2013 season was a turbulent one for Rajasthan Royals as despite finishing third in the IPL and runners-up in the Champions League Twenty20, the team was more in news for the wrong reasons
Four of their players - Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, Amit Singh and Ankeet Chavan - were found guilty of involvement in spot-fixing
