Elections will be held on Thursday April 17,2014 in 28 parliamentary constituencies, including 5 reserved for SC's and 2 for ST's candidates

The Congress, BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) and AAP are contesting all 28 seats each and JD-S 25, CPI three, CPI-M two and NCP one. Other regional and unrecognized parties have fielded 124 candidates from across the state.

The highest number of contestants in this election, 26, is in Bangalore Central and the least, eight, in Gulbarga reserved (SC), where Railways Minister Mallikarjun Kharge is contesting for the second time to retain the seat.

Karnataka's 4.6 crore voters are spoilt for choice as 434 candidates, including 21 women

In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, 428 candidates including 19 women contested.
The BJP won 19, the Congress six and the JD-S three.
Of the 19 women, only J Shanta of the BJP won the Bellary seat, while Margaret Alva and Tejeswani Gowda of the Congress lost in Uttara Kannada and Bangalore Rural constituencies.

Five ex-CMs are in the fray from the Congress, BJP and the JD(S) in Karnataka

Two sitting MPs M. Veerappa Moily (Chikkaballapura) and N. Dharam Singh (Bidar) have been given tickets by the Congress to re-contest.

Though Dharam Singh is on a strong turf in Bidar with weaker opponents,Veerappa Moily is facing tough contest from the BJP and the JD(S).

Veerappa Moily had served as the Karnataka CM from 1992 to 1994 while N. Dharam Singh was the CM during the Congress-JD(S) coalition government (2004-2006).

Two former CMs from the BJP - B. S. Yeddyurappa and D. V. Sadananda Gowda - are in the fray from Shimoga and Bangalore North constituencies, respectively.

While Yeddyurappa is pitted against Geetha Shivarajkumar (daughter of former CM S. Bangarappa and wife of Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar)

Sadananda Gowda will find the going tough as the local BJP cadres were against his candidature since he hailed from coastal Karnataka.

Both BJP leaders are striving for an identity at the national level through this election and a loss could reduce their bargaining power in the party.

Former prime minister and chief minister H. D. Deve Gowda is the JD(S) candidate from Hassan, his hometown where he has been invincible. Neither the BJP nor the Congress has found a suitable candidate against Deve Gowda in Hassan and victory for him is expected to be easy.
2014 Lok Sabha Election Phase 5 April 17,2014 - 28 Seats

In 2009, the ruling BJP led by BS Yeddyurappa won 19 seats. The Congress won just 6 and the remaining 3 went to the JDS.

No of  Seats

There is a visible wave of Narendra Modi in major cities and some urban areas. But, in rural areas, caste still is a dominant factor.

Siddaramaiah, who became the chief minister after the Congress returned to power after 9 years in May 2013, is trying his best to win at least 15 Lok Sabha seats for the party

The JDS led by the Gowda family is fighting for its political survival. If it loses this election, then it will be the end of road for the JDS. If the JDS wins at least 3-4 Lok Sabha seats, it can retain its relevance.
