The electorate in Tamil Nadu has crossed the five-crore mark with the addition of over 66 lakh voters since 2011 and 34 lakh among them are women.

Though men voters outnumber the fairer sex in the overall tally of 5.38 crore, women forged ahead in terms of new voters.

Only about 31 lakh men enrolled themselves since the 2011 assembly elections, whereas over 34 lakh more women have become eligible to cast their ballots in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

There were 2,37,05,640 men, 2,34,08,812 women and 1,394 others (transgenders) in the total of 4,71,15,846 at the time of 2011 Assembly polls.

 Assam - 6 Seats
At a recent rally in Dhubri, the westernmost district in lower Assam, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said: "The BJP repealed the IMDT Act. Still I have not thrown out one single individual during my tenure as chief minister."
The statement had two factual errors. First, the Supreme Court had declared the Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act as unconstitutional in 2005 following a battle by then AASU leader Sarbananda Sonowal (now the state BJP president).
Second, by the Assam government's admission, 134 of the 5,652 illegal immigrants detected were deported to Bangladesh between 2010 and 2012.
As Assam enters the final phase of the election on April 24, this was a desperate attempt by Gogoi to woo Muslims in Dhubri and Barpeta.
With Muslims living in fear, the Congress is finding it tough to stop supporters of the community siding with the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).
With over 75 % Muslim population, Dhubri is considered AIUDF chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal's fortress.
In 2012, AIUDF's stock among Muslims rose following the riots in the Bodoland. The Gogoi government was at that time accused of bias towards ally Bodoland People's Front.
However, in Barpeta, the battle has become multi-cornered. While AIUDF did not contest in 2009, sitting Congress MP Ismail Hussain had defeated his AGP rival Bhupen Rai by a slender margin.
This time, AIUDF has fielded Badruddin's brother Sirajuddin. Former AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary, now a BJP candidate, and AGP's Phani Bhusan Choudhury are also contesting in Barpeta.
Though the Bodo-dominated Kokrajhar remained a BPF stronghold, its popularity has dipped, especially among non- Bodo communities.
The Guwahati constituency will see a three-cornered fight among sitting BJP MP Bijoya Chakravarty, Congress' Manas Bora and AGP's Birendra Prasad Baishya.
Bora, son of state minister Akon Bora, was the first Congress candidate to be selected through primaries. While Chakravarty hopes to ride on the Modi wave, Baishya is expected to give a tough challenge.
Nagaon seems to have been swept up by the Modi wave, giving an edge to sitting BJP MP Rajen Gohain. The Mangaldoi constituency is a prestige issue for Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Congress high command decided to field his nominee Kirip Chaliha despite strong opposition from Gogoi.
Despite a significant Muslim population, the AIUDF has fielded an unknown Hindu candidate, Paresh Baishya, reportedly to help Sarma.

Chhattisgarh - 7 Seats

The 7 Seats are -- Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Korba, Surguja, Raigarh and Janjgir-Champa
An electorate of about 1.18 crore will decide the fate of 150 candidates for the 7 seats
Raipur, Korba, Bilaspur and Durg are considered the main constituencies.
An interesting battle is in Bilaspur where Congress has fielded Karuna Shukla. She had been in BJP for about 25 years and only recently she crossed over to the Congress.
The BJP has put up Lakhanlal Sahu, a local heavyweight of the powerful OBC community, to settle scores with Karuna Shukla.

West Bengal - 6 Seats

West Bengal has 42 Lok Sabha constituencies. The next three phases of polling will be held April 30 (nine seats), May 7 (six seats) and May 12 (17 seats)

An electorate of around 83 lakh is eligible to choose representatives from among 78 candidates in 9,755 polling stations

6 Six seats spread over 4 districts - Muslim majority Malda and Murshidabad, besides North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur - are up for grabs in phase two of Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal

In the 2009 general election, the Congress had bagged six seats in the state, and five of those constituencies - Raiganj, Malda North, Malda South, Jangipur and Murshidabad - would vote April 24.
The other seat - Balurghat - had gone to the left Front partner Revolutionary Socialist Party(RSP)
In 2009, the Congress and the Trinamool had teamed up, but the alliance ended three years later

With the Congress and the Trinamool now fighting separately, the LF is hoping to cash in on the division of votes between the erstwhile allies.

Bihar  -7 Seats
Bihar's 7 parliamentary constituencies that vote on Thursday April 24,2014 have a sizeable Muslim population

Bihar's most backward pockets with high percentage of poverty, illiteracy and migration are part of the five constituencies - Kishanganj, Purnea, Araria, Katihar and Supaul - known as the Seemanchal region as they share border with Nepal, Bangladesh or West Bengal.

They have a sizeable Muslim population - from 17 % in Supaul to nearly 70 % in Kishanganj. Supaul is also regarded as part of flood-devastated Kosi region.

Two other constituencies, Bhagalpur and Banka, are not in Seemanchal but both have significant Muslim population that will influence the poll outcome.

In the last polls in 2009, the BJP won Araria, Purnea, Katihar and Bhagalpur, barring Kishanganj where Congress candidate Ashrarul Haque won

Jharkhand - 4 Seats

The 4 seats which go to the polls are - Dhanbad, Dumka, Rajmahal and Godda.
The BJP won 3 of the4 seats in 2009, while JMM had won the Dumka seat.
All eyes are on Dumka where former Chief Minister and president of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) Babulal Marandi and another former chief minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren are locked in a fight

Rajasthan - 5 Seats

More than 80.79 lakh electorate are eligible to exercise their franchise to elect 5 MPs out of 81 contestants from Dausa, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur and Sawaimadhopur LS constituencies

Congress, BJP and BSP have fielded five candidates each, while there were 20 Independents and 37 nominees of other parties.

Altogether 9,112 polling stations, including 2,667 critical polling stations, have been set up in the five constituencies.
