Sushil Koirala Elected Prime Minister of Nepal Monday Feb 10,2014



Sushil Koirala, has been elected prime minister, nearly three months after Constituent Assembly elections held in Nov 2013

There has been political deadlock in Nepal, since elections in Nov 2013 when no party won a majority.

Nepali Congress chief Sushil Koirala on Sunday Feb 09,2014 filed his nomination papers for the post of prime minister, after the CPN-UML, the second largest party in Parliament, decided to extend support to a government led by him

Election to the Prime Minister's post was held on Monday Feb 10,2014

Sushil Koirala,the Nepali Congress President was the only candidate who secured 405 of 553 votes cast, after the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) agreed to support him.

Sushil Koirala(74) considered "Mr. Clean" in Nepali politics, Koirala has never held any public office. Koirala, who is single, belongs to Nepal's famous Koirala clan which, like the Nehru-Gandhi family of India and the Bhuttos of Pakistan, has been deeply involved in the country's democratic struggle.

Sushil Koirala will be the fourth from his family  to become Prime Minister of Nepal after -
Matrika Prasad Koirala (1951-52 and 1953-55)
Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala (1959-60) and
Girija Prasad Koirala (1991-94, 1998-99, 2000-01 and 2007-08).
