Italian centre-left politician Matteo Renzi has been sworn in as prime minister

Matteo Renzi(39) the Democratic Party leader is Italy's youngest-ever PM.

On Friday he formally accepted the mandate to lead a new government and named 16-member cabinet



In his 16-strong cabinet, half of the new ministers are women and — with an average age of 47.8 years — it is the youngest government in Italy’s history.

The new 16-member cabinet is the youngest in modern Italian history.

The 16-strong government, in which half the ministers are women, has an average age of under 48, the youngest in modern Italian history.

Two figures in Italian business -Federica Guidi and Giuliano Poletti, have been given the industry and labour portfolios.

Announcing his team on Friday Feb 21,2014, he said: "It's a government that will start to work from tomorrow morning."

The new finance minister will be Pier Carlo Padoan, a senior economist at the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Angelino Alfano, who heads the New Centre Right party, one of the Democratic Party's coalition partners, remains as interior minister.

The Matteo Renzi led Govt will have to win a vote of confidence in parliament, expected on Monday, before it starts work officially.
