Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL)Stopped Production of Maruti 800 Car



Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) has stopped production of the iconic Maruti 800 Car, bringing down the curtains on a car that has been immensely popular with millions of Indian middle class families

“Now on the January 18,2014 we have stopped the M-800 production completely. We have to keep all of them (dies and moulds) for the spare parts requirement. We have to continuously meet the customer requirements. That is our duty to make sure that they get all the parts,” C V Raman, Executive Director, MSIL said

About Maruti 800


  • Maruti 800 was launched in December 1984 with almost 100% imported components
  • The first car to be sold in India was purchased for Rs 47500 by Harpal Singh, an Indian Airlines employee from New Delhi, who won the ownership rights to the car competing against other prospective owners, through a lucky draw and was handed over the keys of his dream machine by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi
