Lok Sabha (House of the People) -Facts


According to Article 79 (Part V-The Union.) of the Constitution of India, theParliament of India consists of President of India and the two Houses of Parliament known as Council of States(Rajya Sabha)and House of the People(Lok Sabha)



First Lok Sabha
The Lok Sabha (House of the People) was duly constituted for the first time on April 17,1952 after the first General Elections held from October 25,1951 to February 21,1952
The first Session of the First Lok Sabha commenced on May 13,1952 ,lasted its full tenure and was dissolved on April 04,1957
Indian National Congress won the 1st General Election by winning 364 of the 489 seats
CPI won 16 seats
Socialist Party won 12 seats
Indiependents won 37 seats
Other parties won 60 seats
Jawaharlal Nehru became the democratically1st elected Prime Minister of India

Third Lok Sabha(April 1962 -March 1967)

Fourth Lok Sabha(March 1967 - Dec 1970)

Fifth Lok Sabha(March 1971 -Jan 1977)

Sixth Lok Sabha(March 1977 -Aug 1979)

Seventh Lok Sabha(Jan 1980 -Dec 1984)

Eighth Lok Sabha(Dec 1984 -Nov 1989)

Nineth Lok Sabha (Dec 1989 - March 1991)
